JOB TITLE: Crime Victims Advocate

POSITION SUMMARY: The Crime Victims Advocate is a limited term, grant-funded position responsible for coordinating and case management for a comprehensive response to crime victims in conjunction with the SAFE Program Manager at Snoqualmie Valley Health. This will include ensuring that crime victims, especially tribal members, have access to the services available through the partnership between Snoqualmie Indian Tribe and Snoqualmie Valley Health by for working directly with victims in need. This role involves both conducting assessments to determine necessary services, resourcing for crime victims, providing support for victims, and ensuring their safety and well-being. It may also include collaborating with Snoqualmie Valley Health and Snoqualmie Tribe leadership to develop or refine strategies and programs that promote safety, crime prevention, education, empowerment, and healing for individuals who have been affected by violent crime. In conjunction with the Emergency Department Manager, this role will also work with Emergency Department patients who may be vulnerable or in need of resources, housing, or coordination with behavioral health services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct intake communication from victims seeking services, which may include emails and phone calls. Assess the immediate needs of the victims and determine appropriate resources.
  • Foster partnerships with community organizations and identify opportunities to increase services that meet the community needs.
  • Foster relationships with crime victims, mental health patients, or other at-risk/vulnerable patients in the Emergency Department to identify and coordinate helpful resources.
  • Function as a support member of the Emergency Department care team to help provide optimal patient care and outcome

  • Assist in collecting and maintaining victim population data to identify trends.
  • Provide victims with community access to resources to overcome barriers, such as emergency shelter (community partnership with Reclaim), food (community partnership with Snoqualmie Food Bank), childcare, transportation, and immediate safety, healthcare and mental healthcare needs.
  • Maintain verbal and written communication with multidisciplinary teams on patients.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Actively participate in own performance review, being open to constructive feedback and to integrating recommendations into practice.

  • Provide immediate crisis intervention, emotional support, and safety planning for victims and patients in emergency situations.
  • Maintain case files and follow-up regularly with victims and patients to ensure their ongoing safety and continue to assess their need for resources.
  • Perform basic mental health screening and safety planning with patients to ensure their initial and ongoing safety and mental health in a variety of contexts, including but not limited to the Emergency Department and Community Health settings.

  • Provide culturally sensitive advocacy and trauma-informed care.
  • Coordinate, negotiate, and advocate for patients needs with community services, external case managers, internal case managers, or insurance payers.
  • Build relationships with local community services, patients, and care teams to form an integrated care network that supports and empowers victims, patients, and their families. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education: At least an associates degree in social services or related field.

Required Licensure: Washington State Drivers License

Required Experience: Minimum of one year of experience working with victims of violent crime or in the field of victim advocacy or social services.

Skills:

  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with victims of violent crime.
  • Comfortable with working with victims of all ages.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of violent crimes and the implications on victims of violent crime.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, including power and control tactics, cycle of abuse, and the impact of trauma.
  • Awareness of and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, and ability to provide culturally sensitive and humble support to all victims.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and minimal data collection, maintenance, and analytics.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office and clinical settings with direct exposure to patient care areas.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed and as agreed upon.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • May require occasional travel between facility locations.

Benefit Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.
