Shipfitter

As a shipfitter, you will specialize in the construction, repair, and maintenance of ships and marine vessels. You will play a vital role in ensuring the structural integrity and safety of vessels, working primarily in shipyards.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble structural parts of ships, including bulkheads, frames, and hulls.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine specifications and requirements.
• Perform welding, cutting, and shaping of metal components using various tools and equipment.
• Install and secure fittings, fixtures, and other components on ships and marine vessels.
• Inspect and test completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
• Collaborate with welders, pipefitters, electricians, and other tradespeople.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in welding, cutting, and grinding techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity.
• Familiarity with safety protocols and shipyard operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or apprenticeship preferred.

Work Environment

Work in shipyards, dry docks, or onboard vessels, exposed to outdoor elements and confined spaces. Utilize heavy machinery and personal protective equipment (PPE) during operations. The position offers a schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with a half-hour lunch break from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon.

Job Type & Location

This is a contract to hire position based out of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
