Job Title: Business Data Analyst (Semantic Layer & Power BI)
Location: Remote; potential hybrid in Oakland, CA, Rancho Cordova, CA, Alpharetta, GA
Duration: 6 months+
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and stakeholder-focused Business Data Analyst to support the development of Business Semantic Layers, specifically Power BI datasets for key domains such as Claims and Member data. This role is not hands-on technical development but requires a strong understanding of data requirements, reporting, and data analysis from a business/functional perspective. The ideal candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, review existing reports, understand data needs, and work with the technology team to design solutions that support self-service analytics and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Gather and define comprehensive data and reporting requirements, including capabilities needed for end-user consumption.
Perform data analysis by reviewing existing reports and eliciting additional requirements through stakeholder engagement.
Support the design of Power BI datasets and semantic layers that align with business needs.
Conduct data quality checks and UAT to ensure reliability and accuracy of datasets and reports.
Document metadata, data definitions, and data lineage to support transparency and maintainability.
Develop user-friendly self-service guides and documentation to facilitate adoption of reports and dashboards.
Lead change management activities, including stakeholder training, communication plans, and feedback collection for continuous improvement.
Monitor dataset usage, gather user feedback, and promote best practices for analytics adoption.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven experience with healthcare and/or health payer data domains.
Experience working with Snowflake and Power BI is a strong plus.
Strong analytical skills and ability to work with stakeholders to translate business needs into data solutions.
Excellent communication, documentation, and change management skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally with both business and technical teams.
